Located in Oxmoore, KY this new Anthropologie location exists in a popular mall with an exterior entrance as well as an interior mall entrance. Programmatically this posed challenges and opportunities in terms of characterizing certain areas of the store private or public. In order to provide equal but unique experiences for the customer entering from the mall or the exterior, a free standing fixture was introduced drawing the customer towards the center and to the far extent of the store.
The storefront’s simple volume and bold finish purposefuly contrasts the ornate and highly detailed storefronts of the adjacent tenants. The customer enters from the parking lot under this blue volume that appears to be lifted up and supported off of original wood columns. The height of the blue volume as well as the sidelight to the left developed in response to the existing space 30 ft ceilings on the interior. In order to maintain a residential feel all ceilings were dropped down to 10’ off the finish floor except for a large side light which appeared to cut diagonally through and down into the front of store. This move allowed for natural light to diffuse into the front of store without creating a very high datum line for the majority of the storefront.
Three large volumes with lower ceilings and similiar details live in 3 corners in the space, carving out a higher and more open central area. Here the higher ceiling allowed for free standing vignette panels with special finishes to anchor special apparel and product ‘stories’ that the customer can freely navigate around after entering either entrances.
