Inspired by Vancouver’s large shipping port, the design of this store seeks to inject the spirit of Anthropologie into a sleek and modern new mall development in Vancouver, BC. Our approach to the distribution, detailing and proportions of our ‘room’s in this store was inspired by the tight organization of shipping containers which vary in color and cargo type. Each ‘room’ was given its own identity through particular finishes, fixtures and program. Between these containers is the glazing system which moves up and over these containers further emphasizing their unique character.
Wood cladding was introduced on the soffits and each ‘container’ received a special plaster finish. The ‘entry container’ shown in the perspective above depicts the heightened sense of materiality intended to impact the customer where she will be coming into close contact with the store environment. The detailing of this volume involves an exterior plaster system with 14 inch reclaimed wood boards and antique window shudders set into plaster..
